My good friend, Ashley, is in the city bedridden in a disgustingly clean hospital room. She has cystic fibrosis (or CF). For those of you who aren't aware of what CF is, the dictionaray defines it as this:
a common hereditary disease especially among whites that appears usually in early childhood, involves functional disorder of the exocrine glands, and is marked especially by faulty digestion due to a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes, by difficulty in breathing due to mucus accumulation in airways, and by excessive loss of salt in the sweat.
Basically, it causes alot of mucus to build up in your lungs. It affects her so much that she ends up coughing up blood and other pretty fluids that you don't really want to hear about. She's been in and out of the hospital because of her illness for the past couple months, but has lately been there for the past three weeks with no progress. They've put the poor girl on an oxygen tank, humidifying the air after she had a bad reaction to the just plain old, dry air.
Since most people with cystic fibrosis don't live until past the age 18, her worsening condition alarms me even more.
All I ask of you is a prayer. That God would heal her and help her to be the happy, wonderful, and crazy girl that she is.
